BOSTON, MA (January 29, 2012) -- The Vassar College men's squash team went 1-2 in the Boston Round Robin on Sunday with a 6-3 loss to College Squash Association (CSA) No. 45 Denison University, an 8-1 win over No. 47 Boston University, and an 8-1 loss to No. 31 Northeastern.
The No. 39 ranked Brewers (5-12) snapped an eight-match skid and return to action on Sunday, February 5, at 1:00 p.m. on the road at Fordham University.
Vassar was strong at the top two positions with the tandem of freshman
Michael Sankovich and junior Jacob Harris, who each went 2-1 on the day.
At the No. 1 position, Sankovich picked up Vassar's only point against Northeastern with an 11-6, 11-9, 13-15, 13-11 win over John Ghublikian. Against BU, he cruised 11-9, 11-2, 11-4 over Benjamin Bunjapamai.
Coming off a semester abroad, Harris showed grit to overcome a two-set deficit for a 9-11, 2-11, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4 five-set win over Will Lawson of Denison at the No. 2 position. Harris rolled 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 over Jacob Roscae of BU.
Riley McCabe and
Marshall Daly were dependable in the middle of the lineup with wins over Denison and BU at the No. 6 and No. 7 positions, respectively. Against Denison, McCabe knocked off Scott Schoenberger 11-4, 11-3, 12-10 at No. 6 and Daly handled Clair Miller 11-7, 11-9, 11-9. However, Denison rallied for a narrow 6-3 win.
In an 8-1 win over BU, McCabe gutted out an 11-9, 11-4, 10-12 three-set win over Aroosh Sabhasrod and Daly took out Nick Anderson in four sets 11-7, 11-2, 4-11, 11-7.
