Brewers Reach Ninth Liberty League Championship With 6-3 Win Over Saints

GENEVA, NY (May 7, 2011) -- The top-seeded Vassar College women's tennis team knocked off the No. 4 seeded St. Lawrence University in the semifinals of the Liberty League Championships 6-3, and will play for its ninth consecutive Liberty League title on Sunday.

The ITA No. 25 ranked Brewers (14-6) face the winner of No. 2 Skidmore and No. 3 William Smith on Sunday at noon.

Vassar captured two of three doubles points and four of six singles points en route to the 6-3 victory. At No. 2 doubles, Jennifer Beckerman and Alyssa Roush cruised 8-2 over Elizabeth Greer and Shannon Murphy. Vassar earned its second doubles point as Lindsay Kantor and Caroline Dunn-Rankin rolled 8-3 on Sara Willett and Justine Rusk at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 4 singles, Jennifer Ruther dominated Murphy 6-1, 6-1. Joy Backer outlasted Hillary Drewry in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 at No. 2 singles.
