CANTON, NY (November 20, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's squash team went 1-3 in the five-team Liberty League Championships to finish in fourth place. On the final day of play, Vassar fell 8-1 to Hobart College and 9-0 to St. Lawrence University.

“Overall, it was a great weekend of solid squash and learning opportunities,” said head coach Jane Parker.

University of Rochester won its fifth straight Liberty League Championship, edging the second place St. Lawrence University in a 5-4 win yesterday.

The Brewers (4-4) host Amherst College on Wednesday, November 30, at 6:00 p.m. at Kenyon Hall.

Vassar freshman Michael Sankovich showed true grit to claw his way  back from a 2-0 deficit and earn Vassar's only victory on the final day of the Liberty League Championships. Taking on Hobart senior Corey Kabut in the No. 1 position, Sankovich mixed up the pace in the first two games but went down 11-7, 11-7.

Sankovich adjusted his tactics and minimized errors by selecting straight deep shots at the front to deal with his opponent's boasts. His consistency wore down Kabut and teased him into mistakes. Sankovich steadily fought his way back for a 7-11, 7-11, 11-9, 11-8, 11-6 five-set victory.
