CANTON, NY (NOVEMBER 19, 2011) -- The Vassar College men's squash team went 1-1 in the opening day of the Liberty League Championships with a 9-0 loss to the defending champion University of Rochester and an 8-0 win over Bard College.

In the final day of play on Sunday, the Brewers face Hobart College at 11:00 a.m. and St. Lawrence at 1:00 p.m.

Vassar was unable to take a set off Rochester but Riley McCabe came close in a 12-10, 11-9, 11-7 loss to Jesse Kramer of Rochester.

“The team stepped up and got the best out of their experience against Rochester,” said head coach Jane Parker. “They took up the challenge, got into rallies, and worked on their games.”

Vassar regrouped and swept Bard 8-0 with a double-default at the No. 9 position and defaults by Bard at the No. 7 and No. 8 positions.

“We did our job against Bard and overall it was a good day,” said Parker.
