THOUSAND OAKS, CA (March 9, 2010) – The No. 21 nationally-ranked Vassar College women's tennis team continued its domination in the second stop of its five-match trip to California during Spring Break, defeating California Lutheran University, 9-0, on Tuesday.
With their seventh consecutive win, the Brewers improve to 7-1 and next play Westmont College on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. Westmont is ranked No. 17 in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Preseason Poll. Vassar, which was ranked No. 21 nationally and No. 6 in the Northeast in the most recent Intercollegiate Tennis Association, faced a Cal Lutheran (5-2) team that is ranked No. 9 in the West region, and had just one loss prior to hosting the Brewers.
After sweeping the doubles play with 8-3 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 and an 8-5 win at No. 2, the Brewers were similarly strong in singles play. Vassar dropped just 16 games in all six singles matches.
Senior No. 1
Nicole Pontee, ranked No. 6 individually in the Northeast, faced another regionally ranked opponent in Cal Lutheran's Jordan Leckness, the No. 22 player in the West. Pontee easily won the battle with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep. Freshman No. 4

The closest match of the day came at No. 3 as sophomore
Joy Backer pulled out a close 7-6 win over Holly Beaman in the first set, and then sealed the match with a 6-2 second-set win.
