POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (November 17, 2010) -- Despite a 4-3 lead, the Vassar College men's squash team drew the short end of the stick in a 5-4 loss to Fordham Wednesday evening at Kenyon Hall.

The Brewers (1-3) host the Liberty League Championships against Hobart, Rochester, and St. Lawrence this Saturday and Sunday, November 20-21 at Kenyon Hall. With the completion of their Fall season, the Rams (2-4) will play their next match on February 6, 2011 against Vassar.

With the match down to the wire at 4-4, the No. 3 Arjun Jain won the first game over Fordham's Ely Plangger 11-9. Plangger evened the score at 1-1 with an 11-8 win. In the ensuing dramatic sets, Jain was unable to clinch the final points and Plangger outlasted him for 13-11 finishes in the final games to clinch the 5-4 win for Fordham.

Up four points to three and needing only one match to clinch the win, Jain and No. 7 Dan Freeman were left to seal the deal. Freeman looked like he might make a come back from a 0-2 deficit when he changed his strategy to high and slow, hard and low game but he slipped up against Fordham's Roy Chen 11-7, 11-7, 11-7.

Senior captain Annsser Sadiq “played the most athletic and smartest squash of his career to claw back a 1-2 deficit and win the 4th and 5th nail biting games 11-9, 11-9,” said head coach Jane Parker. Sadiq defeated Fordham's Jack O'Brien 11-4, 7-11, 9-11, 11-9, 11-9.

The dependable sophomore Jake Harris rolled for an 11-8, 11-5, 11-1 win over Colin Corbett at No. 1 singles.
