POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (OCTOBER 6, 2010) -- The Vassar College women's tennis team defeated cross-river rival SUNY New Paltz 8-1 in their first dual match of the Fall season Wednesday evening at Walker Field House.

The Brewers (1-0) will play a road double-header this Saturday, October 9, facing Union at 9:30 a.m. and RPI at 3:30 p.m. The Hawks (7-2) will compete in the SUNYAC Championships this Friday through Sunday.

The Brewers cruised for three quick wins in doubles to go up 3-0 entering singles.

Senior captain Caroline Dunn-Rankin delivered the deciding fifth point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Paige Munroe of New Paltz to clinch the match for the Brewers.

Freshman Lindsay Kantor registered the first singles win of her collegiate career  in dual match play as she rolled 6-2, 6-0 over Alli Esposito of New Paltz.
