GENEVA, NY (April 18, 2009) -- In what has become an annual ritual of spring, the Vassar men's tennis team will face rival Skidmore College for the Liberty League Championship on Sunday at Noon. By virtue of an impressive 7-2 victory over St. Lawrence, the No. 2 seeded Brewers will face the No. 1 seeded Thoroughbreds for a fourth straight year. Last year, Skidmore recaptured the championship from Vassar with a 6-3 victory.
The Brewers will enter the match with a 10-7 record, while Skidmore, which defeated host Hobart 8-1, carries a 14-2 record.
"I thought our intensity level was good today," said head coach Ki Kroll. "We stepped up and played well, and I am looking forward to playing Skimdore on Sunday for the championship."
The Brewers took all but one singles match and two of three doubles matches. Kroll was impressed with the play of sophomore
Joshua Jasso at fourth singles and at third doubles alongside senior
Peter Ludlow. Fellow senior
Jeremy Rosen won convincingly at sixth singles and sophomore
Greg Katz was impressive, dropping just two games in singles. He joined sophomore
Max Willner for an easy 8-1 victory in doubles.
