Jasso Strong In Singles, But Brewers Fall To Tufts, 7-2

MEDFORD, MA (April 10, 2009) – In the regular season final for the men's tennis team, the Brewers ran into a formidable Tufts University team, ranked No. 30 in the nation, and fell to the Jumbos 7-2 Friday afternoon in non-conference action. Despite some strong play in the doubles competition, which saw the Brewers take the No. 1 match, Tufts won five of six singles matches to end Vassar's three game winning streak.

The Brewers, now 9-7 on the season, will next compete at the Liberty League Championships at Hobart College, on April 18-19.

Vassar lost three extremely tight doubles matches and had tiebreaker losses in three singles matches. None of the singles matches went to a third set, despite competitive play. Highlights for Vassar were the victory by senior Jeremy Rosen and junior Michael Mattelson at first doubles and the play of sophomore Joshua Jasso at fourth singles who played a stellar match in defeating Tony Carucci of Tufts in two exhilarating sets.

“I was particularly pleased with Joshua today,” said head coach Ki Kroll. “He was exceptional today, played a very strong opponent and rose to the occasion.”
