Mattelson Rounding Into Form, But Men's Tennis Falls To Amherst, 8-1

SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (March 28, 2009) -- Junior Mike Mattelson (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck) continues to prove why he is a force to be reckon with in Division III tennis. In a match against perennial power Amherst College at Skidmore College, Mattelson won his number one singles play, and despite the Brewers losing 8-1 this afternoon, head coach Ki Kroll saw enough solid play to provide optimisim for his team.

The Brewers even their spring record at 5-5 and will return home on Monday, March 30 against Drew University.

"Overall I was happy with our play," said head coach Ki Kroll. "Amherst is a very strong team. I thought our doubles teams played with a lot of intensity, and we did some really nice things on the court. We lost three close matches, but competed very well.

"Jeremy (Rosen) and Mike (Mattelson) held their own at the number one position against a very tough Amherst doubles team. In singles play, I think Mike played well and keeps improving week to week. He has a few more tough matches left this season and I am looking forward to see how he does. He's playing very well right now."
