Golfers Start Spring With Win Over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps

RANCHO CUCAMENGA, CA (March 20, 2009) -- Thanks to a strong overall team performance, the Vassar College women's golf team opened its spring season with a win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges at the Empire Lakes Golf Course during the Brewers' Spring Break trip to California. Vassar occupied four of of the top five spots, led by senior Kayleigh Horn, who won the one-day dual match with a 75, four strokes ahead of the second place finisher from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

Horn's teammates followed her, placing 3-4-5, as the Brewers defeated the Athenas, 334-352. Freshman Alex Bello finished third with an 85 with senior teammate Katie Bertel just behind her with an 86, and freshman Laura King placed fifth with an 88.

The Brewers next compete as they host the Fifth Annual Vassar College Women's Golf Invitational on April 4-5 at the Casperkill Country Club.
