POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (February 14, 2009) – The Vassar College men's tennis team picked up its second straight win of the spring season, defeating Manhattanville College 7-2 at the Walker Field House on Saturday afternoon. The Brewers opened the afternoon by sweeping all three doubles matches and exercised similar control in singles, dropping just four sets in total.

Vassar is now 3-1 overall and will play one more match at home this Saturday, February 21 against Coast Guard Academy before taking on Liberty League rival Skidmore in Saratoga on February 28.

"We're still tuning up for Skidmore," said head coach Ki Kroll after the match. "The guys are gaining some necessary confidence. It was great to see us play so well in doubles today."

Kroll was especially pleased with his number two doubles squad of Mike Mattelson (Great Neck, NY/Great Neck North) and Peter Ludlow (Bridgehampton, NY/Southampton), who took down Manhattanville's Imran Choudhury (Queens, NY) and Lance Dorfi (North Salem, NY) 8-4.

"[Ludlow] served really well today," said Kroll. "Those two are going to be a solid team for us this year."

In singles, Vassar clinched straight-set victories in all but two matches, both of which Manhattanville won in the tiebreak. Brewer junior Shane Donahue (Oakland, CA/Skyline) knocked off Dean Tahir (Yonkers, NY) 6-3, 6-1 at the number five slot, and sophomore Josh Jasso (Olmito, TX/James Pace) cruised past Kyle McGowan (Old Saybrook, CT) 6-0, 6-0.

"Those two really stepped up for us this afternoon," said Kroll. "[Jasso] is continually improving. It's exciting for me to see him this year, because he just keeps getting better. And Shane is in his first year as a starter, and he's just playing so well. I think he'll continue to excel as we see better competition."

Mattelson and sophomore Greg Katz (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin Senior) picked up the other two singles wins for Vassar.
