GENEVA, NY (April 26, 2008) -- Vassar's women's tennis team defeated St. Lawrence 5-1 and will meet Skdimore for the Liberty League Championship on Sunday.

Vassar posted a 2-1 lead after the doubles. Barnett and Burks posted a key #2 doubles win, 8-6, over Finn and Gilman of SLU. The third doubles pair of Alexis Jacobson and Elizabeth Anderson dominated their SLU opponents, 8-1. Just before the end of the doubles the skies opened and all matches were moved inside.

In singles, Nicole Pontee posted Vassar's third point with her 6-4, 6-1 victory. Courtney Burks won at #5 singles for the fourth point. At the #4 spot Alexis Jacobson fought back from a 1-4 deficit in the first set to win the next five games, clinching the first set 6-4 and continued her momentum winning the second set 6-1.

That was Vassar's fifth point, and since the matches were moved inside the matches were played to decision. Three matches were suspended when Vassar clinched the fifth point. These matches included #2 singles Kelly Barnett, #3 singles Krista Romita and #6 singles Jamie Steele.
