SARATOGA SPRINGS, NY (April 12, 2008) -- Vassar's women's tennis team, ranked No, 16 in the nation, suffered a 5-4 loss to Liberty League rival Skidmore College this afternoon.

The Brewers are now 12-4 on the season and will host MIT this Sunday, April 20 at 11:00 am. The Liberty League Championships follow the next weekend at William Smith College.

Skidmore took a 2-1 lead in the doubles. In the singles Skidmore took the first match, while Vassar's Courtney Burks won the No. 6 match 6-1, 6-0 to remain undefeated in singles play this year.

With the score 3-2 for Skidmore, the remaining four singles matches were extremely close. Kelly Barnett fought back from a 0-3 deficit in the first set, losing 7-5, while the second set was close for the duration with Skidmore prevailing 7-5 in the second set as well.

At the No. 4 position, Vassar's Krista Romita won her first set, dropped the set
and was losing 0-3 in the third when she totally changed the momentum of the match winning the set 6-4 to post Vassar's third point to Skidmore's four. Vassar's No. 5 player, Alexis Jacobson, then clinched
her third set and her match for Vassar's fourth point winning 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.

With the team match score tied at 4-4, the No. 3 singles match was in the third set with Skidmore eventually winning 7-5.
