POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (December 3, 2008) – Though the Vassar College men's squash team dropped a 7-2 match to Fordham University on Wednesday evening at Kenyon Courts, it was an evening of tight competition, as four matches went to five sets. Unfortunately for Vassar, Fordham came out on the winning end of three of those matches.
The Brewers fall to 0-5 and will conclude the 2008 portion of their season with three consecutive days of competition, as they host Franklin & Marshall College on Friday, play Georgetown University and George Washington University on Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational, and conclude the weekend at Amherst College on Sunday. The Rams pick up their second consecutive win and improve to 2-5.
Senior
Nicholas Lupu (Stratford, CT/Robinson School) gave the Brewers a thrilling victory at the No. 3 spot, defeating Fordham's Jason Sherriff (Weston, CT/CT) by pulling out a 10-8 fifth set win.
Mehdi Naqvi (Karachi, Pakistan/Karachi Grammar) recorded Vassar's other win at the No. 6 spot with a 3-1 win over Ted Cronin (Harrison, NY/Fordham Prep).
The Rams picked up five set wins at the No. 4, 7, and 8 spots.
“It was so close without our No. 1 [out with an injury],” said head coach
Jane Parker. “They played well, it could have gone either way. It was a great learning experience.”
