Men's Tennis Readies For ITA's Against Top Williams Team

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY (October 1, 2008) -- Playing against perennial national power Williams, the Vassar men's tennis team came away with an impressive victory at No. 1 doubles and proved to be a formidable opponent despite falling to the Ephs, 8-1. The Brewers (1-1) will take positive momentum from the Williams match into play this weekend a the Wilson ITA Tournament.

Vassar's sophomore doubles team of Max Willner and Greg Katz, the defending Wilson/ITA Champions defeated the Williams team of Jeremy Weinberg and Kevin Shallcross in an exciting back-and-forth match, 9-7.

"Defeating the Williams number one doubles team was a nice victory for Max and Greg," said head coach Ki Kroll. "They are picking up their play and looking good. I'm looking forward to see how they do in the ITA's as defending champions.

"In singles, we had some really tough matches, so I feel we are competing better. I thought Greg (Katz) played well, and almost pulled it out. Williams is always tough, and each year I think we compete better. As a team, we are coming together. The ITA's should be a fun weekend, and anything is possible."
