Sophomore George Whiteside was stellar all day Saturday at the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference Championships, earning individual honors as the best epee fencer on the day while also helping the VC epee squad to first place in the weapon rankings and also a tie for the best squad overall. After VC went 27-3 in epee in round play, Whiteside went 4-1 in pool play, earning the top seed in the direct elimination bracket. Whiteside cruised through the first round 15-6, before knocking off teammate Ry Farley in the semifinals 15-12. In the finals, Whiteside and fellow Brewer Jonathan Alperstein battled to a 15-11 decision, with Whiteside earning the crown as NEIFC epee champion.Â
