Strand has had a solid opening season to his tenure at Vassar College, as he has been named as the Liberty League Rookie of the Week on a pair of occassions. Strand picked up his first weekly honor November 10, as he had a big day for the Brewers on Nov. 8, claiming three individual victories in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.64), 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.40) and 200-yard individual medley (2:08.85). Strand was also was a a part of the 200-yard medley relay team that finished first as the Brewers went on to top Skidmore 167-114. 

Strand followed that up a week later, as he again earned top rookie billing in the conference after he notched three individual event victories at New Paltz. He swam to a career-best 2:19.54 in the 200 yard breaststroke. The freshman also took wins in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:04.70) and 400 individual medley at 4:35.42.
