Evan Fowler

Vassar College Assistant Director of Athletics for Sports Performance Alice Read has announced the hiring of Evan Fowler as the new Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach in October 2024. Fowler will join the staff following a one-year stint with the Western Sydney Wanderers Women's professional soccer team in Australia.

Fowler comes to Poughkeepsie following his time with the Wanderers where he was the Head of Strength and Conditioning. He was responsible for demonstrating and facilitating safe and appropriate exercises for athletes of various fitness levels and physical abilities along with creating and coordinating individual player programs to increase strength and soccer specific fitness levels.

During his time in Sydney, Australia Fowler also spent time with Mossman Rugby Football Club as a strength and conditioning coach where he designed and implemented preseason and in-season rugby specific fitness programs. He was also responsible for player participation in training to maximize improvement through balanced and fitness-based workloads. To achieve these goals, Fowler utilized tools such as MAS to program appropriate workloads via pre- and post-testing.

Prior to working with the Wanderers and Mossman RFC, Fowler worked in Wales, UK with Pontypridd Town Men's/Women's Premier Soccer teams, as their strength and conditioning coach and sports scientist. He worked with other S&C coaches to monitor player strength development and also helped design and implement rehabilitation programs for injured players. He had overall responsibility for developing engaging training sessions that helped players achieve personal fitness goals through soccer position specific exercise programs.

Prior to his move to Australia, Fowler also spent time as a Strength and Conditioning coach with James River Rugby Football Club in Virginia and has also served as an elite youth football coach for eight years with the Richmond Kickers Youth Soccer Club.

Fowler earned his CIMSPA Personal Trainer Level 3 certification in 2021 along with an ASCA Associate Level 2 certification in 2024.

Fowler was a student-athlete at Longwood University in Virginia where he played soccer for four years and earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology with a concentration in Exercise Science in 2017. Fowler later went on to earn his Master of Science in Advanced Coaching in Strength and Conditioning from the University of South Wales, UK in 2021.
