2017: The senior outside hitter seized a starting role for Vassar, and was one of the team's most productive players in 2017...played all six rotations, as his passing out of the back row continued to be a huge asset for VC...was named as an All-United Volleyball Conference Second Teamer after finishing the season with 278 kills, second-most on the squad...hit .257 as a senior, adding 147 digs and 55 total blocks...posted a very strong .980 reception rate...had 21 service aces for the year...earned UVC Player of the Week for the first time in his career on March 13...started the season with a bang, chalking up his season-best for kills with 17 at Hope International, finishing with 10 digs as well...had four double-doubles on the season...tallied 12 kills and 10 digs, hitting .571 against Marymount in a five-set win over the Saints...finished with 12 kills and a season-best 15 digs in a win oer Penn State Behrend...registered 12 kills on 21 swings March 10 against NYU, also posting two aces, six blocks and 10 digs...added nine kills, four aces, eight digs and two assisted blocks...hit .429 against Stevens on February 18, posting 14 kills in the four-set win over the Ducks...registered 15 kills in a win over Rivier College, adding eight digs and three blocks.
2016: Was part of a very solid outside hitter rotation for the Brewers, as he played in 99 sets over 29 matches, starting 21 times...finished fourth on the team in kills with 146, hitting .174 for the season...posted 131 digs for the Brewers, while his 393 service receptions was the second-most on the team...Lizana was great at serve recieve, as his .964 reception percentage topped the squad...finished with 19 service ace in 2016...had four matches with 10 or more kills...had a season-best 12 kills in the UVC Semifinal win over New York University...posted 11 kills and five digs in a win over SUNY Poly January 22...chalked up seven kills and a season-high 10 digs in a four-set loss to No. 3 Stevens...had eight kills and seven digs in a three-set win over Penn State-Behrend.
2015: Lizana enjoyed a solid season as a starting outside hitter and a back row player for the Brewers...the sophomore finished fifth on the team in kills with 101, while posting 97 digs this season...Lizana also chalked up 23 service aces...posted a career-high 10 kills against Wentworth on Feb. 7...against Stevens on March 28, registered nine kills...posted a season-best 10 digs in that same contest against WIT...his receive percentage of .956 is currently fifth-best all-time at Vassar...had six games with seven or more digs in a contest as a junior.
2014: Played in 80 sets across 23 matches…started 23 matches…fifth on the team with 77 kills…hit .110…third on the team with 52 blocks…recorded 40 digs, 13 aces, and nine assists…had six kills against New Paltz Jan 29…recorded a career-high eight kills on a career-high hitting percentage of .727, and had two aces and four digs against Elms Feb. 1…contributed six kills on a .400 hitting percentage, and had four blocks against D’Youville Feb. 8…had five kills and five digs against Emerson Feb. 15…contributed three kills and a career-high six digs against MIT Feb. 22…had six kills and a career-high six blocks against Sacred Heart Mar. 29…recorded six kills and five blocks against Rutgers-Newark Apr. 5.
PRIOR TO VASSAR: Lettered three years in volleyball at Pennridge High School for head coach Dave Childs…named First Team All-Conference, First Team All-District, First Team All-State his senior year…State Quarter Finalists, 4th Place District 1, Continental Conference Runner-Up his senior year…PA State Runner-Up, District 1 Champions, Continental Conference Champions his junior year…5th Place State finishers, District 1 Runner-Up…Continental Conference Champs his sophomore year… lettered two years in soccer for head coach Pete Valimont.
PERSONAL: Parents are John and Lisa Lizana…siblings are Vanessa (17) and Justin (10)… chose Vassar for its “competitive athletics and excellent academics”…plans to major in economics and international studies…chose Vassar over Lehigh, Lafayette, Bard and Juniata.
