Daniel Koenig

Daniel Koenig joined the Vassar swimming and diving staff for his first season with the Brewers in September of 2013.Koenig's Brewers on both the men's and women's sides have experienced immense success over the past two seasons, as the squads have combined to set 26 new school records (11 men, 13 women) since 2013.

The Brewers have also excelled in the classroom under Koenig’s guidance, as the squads combined for 20 Liberty League All-Academic selections and 19 UNYSCSA All-Academic honorees in 2014-15. Both squads also earned the CSCAA Scholar All-America Team Awards in 2014. The Vassar men ranked No. 8 in the country out of 98 qualified programs in team GPA (3.45), while the women (3.53) were No. 21 out of 138 schools.

Koenig has spearheaded the Vassar swimming and diving programs’ social media efforts, managing the teams’ twitter account (@VassarSwimDive). His coverage extended to the 2015 NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships in Shenandoah, TX, where Vassar produced its first All-American swimmer in seven seasons in Julia Cunningham.

Koenig comes to the Vassar after assisting at Division I North Dakota during the 2012-13 season.

While at North Dakota, Koenig helped lead the sprint group, while also organizing practice, travel, recruiting and community service opportunities. Prior to his time in Grand Forks, he was a graduate assistant at Carthage College in Kenosha, WI. As a GA, he was active in recruiting as well as serving as an academic advisor for the squads. During his time at Carthage, Koenig earned his masters of education in sport leadership.

Koenig was a standout in the pool prior to his coaching days, as he was a four-year varsity letter winner for the Badgers of the University of Wisconsin. He was a team captain as a senior, and earned the Buckingham's Award for Outstanding Academics in 2010. Additionally, Koenig was a US Olympic Trials qualifier. After his four years were up at Wisconsin, he assisted the Badgers swim team for a season, focusing on weight training, dry land sessions and stroke technique.

Koenig also was an assistant coach in the summer of 2010 at Fort Lauderdale Aquatics, and is a USA Swimming certified coach. Koenig has been a member of USA Swimming since 1997.
