Andy Jennings

Andy Jennings, the 2009, 2012, and 2016 Liberty League Coach of the Year, led the Brewers to the Liberty League Championship game in 2011, 2012, 2016 and 2017, winning the Championship in 2011 and 2016 as well as the Regular Season Championship in 2012. In 2011, the team advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time since 1999 and repeated the feat with an at-large bid in 2012, winning in the first round and returned again to the NCAA’s in 2016.

As head coach of the Brewers from 1981 to 1985, 1989 to 1996, and 2004-present, Jennings has compiled a 260-179-53 record as the winningest men's soccer coach in Vassar history. He transformed Vassar into one of the Northeast region's premier teams, capturing two Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference regional championships, appearing in seven ECAC playoff championships, and winning three Suburban Conference titles. Jennings, who had served as Vassar's first full-time Director of Athletics in 1996, returned to fulltime coaching in the 2004 season. Over the last few seasons, he has transformed Vassar into a formidable team against non-league opponents and particularly inside the highly-competitive Liberty League, widely considered one of the top leagues in the country.

The 2019 season saw the Brewers finish at 9-7-2 while reaching the Liberty League playoffs. Vassar also earned a 1-0 victory over No. 22 Ithaca on October 26. In 2018, Jennings picked up his 250th career win when the Brewers defeated Skidmore 1-0 in double overtime on October 6. Vassar went 10-5-3 in 2017, and in 2016 the Brewers finished with a program best record of 14-4-2. The season also marked Vassar's second Liberty League Championship title when the team downed Skidmore 3-2 at Gordon Field in the championship game.  

Jennings picked up his milestone 200th victory during the 2014 season, earning a 2-0 win over Maritime College on August 29 to open the season. Since taking over full time as head coach in 2004, Jennings has produced over 40 All-Liberty League Selections, seven NSCAA All-Region players, one NSCAA All-American, three CoSIDA Academic All-District choices, seven NSCAA Scholar Athletes and one CoSIDA Academic All-American. Jennings’s Brewers have earned the United Soccer Coaches Association Team Academic Award (formerly, NSCAA Team Academic Award) in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017. 2018, 2019 and 2020.    

Jennings, a qualified Football Association coach, has directed numerous soccer camps, has worked with both the United States Soccer Federation and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, and continues to be involved in youth soccer in the mid-Hudson valley. During his playing days, he played semi-professionally in England and also represented England Universities. In 2001-02, Jennings, while on sabbatical, gained invaluable experience with the England Under-17 national team and the Bristol City Football Club Academy program.

From 1990 to 2004 Jennings also served as Vassar's Director of Athletics. During this time he spearheaded significant improvements to the athletic facilities including; a $16M addition to the field house (2000), $2.5M locker facility for outdoor sports (2003) plus other facility improvements and renovations.

Jennings served as the Project Manager for the $7.6 million refurbishing of Prentiss Complex. The facility includes a state-of-the-art soccer field and practice fields, lighted artificial turf field, a new baseball field to complement the sports medicine and locker rooms adjacent to the fields.

Jennings graduated from Exeter University in England with a Bachelor of Education, received his Masters degree from the College of William and Mary in Virginia and gained his PhD in Sport Psychology from the University of Maryland. Jennings also serves as the assistant women's golf coach.
