Abigail Seward

Abigail Seward joined the Vassar College field hockey coaching staff for her first season with the Brewers in 2013, rejoining VC in 2015 after the birth of her first son last year. Seward was welcomed to the staff after serving a two-year stint as an assistant coach at nearby SUNY-New Paltz back in 2012.

While at New Paltz, Seward was in charge of recruiting, while also leading the Hawks to their first SUNYAC championship in 2012. She also was the understudy of the 2011 and 2012 SUNYAC Coach of the Year, as well as the 2012 National Coach of the Year. She helped to mentor six All-SUNYAC performers, including the league player of the year in 2012.

Before her time at New Paltz, Seward was a graduate assistant at Washington College in Chestertown, MD. Her duties at Washington including serving as the defensive coach, as well as taking on the role of recruiting coordinator. While in charge of the defense, she coached an all-region player, as well as having a player set a NCAA Division III record for defensive saves. She also helped to recruit 11 players that have made a big impact for the Shorewomen. Seward also earned her masters in English while in Chestertown.

Seward is a Level 1 Certified Coach in the USA Field Hockey Program, which allows her to coach and select players for the Junior Olympics. A 2008 graduate of Lock Haven University in Lock Haven, PA, Seward was a standout for the field hockey squad. She was a four-year varsity starter from 2004-07, appearing in 77 games and serving as team captain during her senior year. She helped lead the team to four straight Northeast Conference (NEC) titles and two consecutive NCAA Division I Field Hockey Championship Tournament play-in game appearances (2006-07).
