Troy, NY – In the first Liberty League weekly report of the year, Vassar College junior
Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) has been named the league's Defensive Player of the Week in Women's Soccer. Tuesday's honor is the third career weekly citation for Shea.
Shea helped Vassar to a 2-0 start in 2026, posting one shutout and combining on another clean sheet. Shea turned aside a single shot on Tuesday in Vassar's 5-0 win at Mount Saint Mary in just over 65 minutes of work and followed that up with a five-save performance in a 3-0 blanking of Scranton Saturday afternoon.
Over the initial two games of the season, Shea holds a 1.000 save percentage covering just over 155 minutes while making six stops. Shea finished off the first week of the season ranked seventh in the conference in saves per game and is one of two qualifying netminders to not allow a goal.
At 2-0 overall on the season, Vassar continues a four-game road trip Saturday afternoon when it pays a visit to the University of Mount Saint Vincent.
