#10 Women’s Soccer Overwhelms Bard, 5-0

Signore, Yowell record first career points

Poughkeepsie, NY – The #10 Vassar College Women's Soccer team opened Liberty League play Wednesday afternoon with an impressive 5-0 home win over Bard. Eight different Brewers recorded a point in the game, including the first career points from First Years Reese Yowell (Palmyra, VA) and Morgan Signore (Newbury, MA).
 
Vassar extends its unbeaten streak to start the season to six games and moves to 4-0-2 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play. Bard falls to 2-3-1 overall and 0-1-0 in Liberty league competition.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar controlled play throughout on Wednesday, not allowing a shot in the contest to the Raptors.
  • The eventual game winning goal came in the 17th minute when senior Gianna Panarelli (Jensen beach, FL) finished off a feed from Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) at the 16:18 mark of the contest.
  • Vassar doubled its lead just under 13 minutes later when sophomore Ava Holman (St. Louis, MO) scored her first of two goals in the contest. Holman took a centering pass from Panarelli and buried the Brewers' second goal at the 29:01 mark.
  • Leading 2-0 at halftime, Vassar held a 16-0 advantage in shots at the break and took the only five corner kicks of the opening 45 minutes.
  • The Brewers came out of halftime and maintained the pressure, scoring three more goals.
  • Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) finished off a nifty give-and-go with Yowell from the top of the box at 59:47 to extend the lead to 3-0.
  • Vassar grew its lead to four goals at the 72:19 mark when a corner kick started by Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL) found Anna Arban (Temecula, CA) just off the goal line.
  • Holman closed out the scoring in the game at the 81:31 mark of the game when she headed home a cross from Signore to give the Brewers the final five-goal advantage.
  • Vassar outshot Bard 20-0 after halftime and took five more corner kicks.
 
For The Brewers
  • Holman potted her first two goals of the season and pushed her season point total to five with Wednesday's four-point performance.
  • Panarelli produced the game winning goal, her second deciding tally of the season, and added an assist in the victory.
  • Crowley potted her team leading third goal of the season and is tied for the team lead in points with six.
  • Arban finished off her second goal of the season in the victory.
  • Sheehan recorded her team leading third assist and stands with five points to date on the season.
  • Ivie recorded her first point of the year with a helper on the game winning goal.
  • Yowell and Singnore both recorded assists for their first collegiate points.
  • Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA), Emily McMahon (Mill Valley, CA) and Isabella Stevens-Mercado (Ann Arbor, MI) all combined on the shutout without having to make a save in goal.
 
For The Raptors
  • Thayden Hamilton-Howard made the start in goal and turned aside four shots in the first half.
  • Julianna LaFond played the second half in goal and made 10 saves for the Raptors.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Bard by a wide 36-0 margin overall, including 19-0 in shots on goal.
  • Corner kicks went to the Brewers 10-0.
 
What's Next
  • The Brewers continue Liberty League play on Saturday with a trip to Ithaca.
  • Bard hosts #17 William Smith on Saturday.
