Vassar Suffers Road Setback At RPI

Busam turns aside 11 shots, Kaltsas posts two points

Troy, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team opened its second Liberty League back-to-back weekend of the season on Friday with a 15-4 road loss at RPI. Maddie Kaltsas (Minnetrista, MN) total two points for the Brewers and Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ) made 11 saves in goal.
 
Friday's loss, Vassar's fourth straight defeat, drops the Brewers to 5-4 overall and 0-4 against league rivals with the Engineers moving to 5-4 overall and 2-2 against conference opponents.
 
How It Happened
  • RPI scored the first four goals of the game over the first 10:57 of the first quarter on Friday.
  • Vassar got on the board at the 1:14 mark of the opening stanza when Elizabeth Burgess (Columbus, OH) finished off a feed from Kaltsas to make the score 4-1 heading to the second period.
  • Both teams scored twice in the second stanza with RPI jumping out to a 6-1 lead on goals from Quinn Wollard and Beckett Houston inside first minute of the quarter.
  • The Brewers potted consecutive goals for the only time in the contest when Logan Skuro (Chappaqua, NY) and Kaltsas struck in the final minute of the half to make the score 6-3 through 30 minutes.
  • RPI finished the first half with a 19-15 advantage in shots and a slim 5-4 edge in draw controls.
  • RPI scored the only five goals of the third frame, including three straight from Houston, to carry a commanding 11-3 lead into the final quarter.
  • Vassar scored its only goal of the second half with 10:06 left in the contest when Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) scored a player-down tally.
  • RPI scored three times in the final 8:37 to close out the 11-goal decision.
 
For The Brewers
  • Kaltsas scored once and added an assist for Vassar to go along with two draw controls.
  • Billings, Burgess and Skuro suppled the other goals for the Brewers with Billings adding two draw controls.
  • Karina Gyllenhaal (Beverley, MA) recorded an assist for the Brewers.
  • Kate Connelly (Owings Mills, MD) finished the day with two draw controls, two forced miscues and a pair of groundballs.
  • Sadie Kramer (Falmouth, ME) paced the Brewers with three caused turnovers.
  • Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) forced two turnovers and equaled the team-high with four groundballs.
  • Busam reached double-figures in saves for the third straight game with 11 stops and joined Del Tatto with a team-high four groundballs.
 
For The Engineers
  • Houston scored five times and finished with six points.
  • Camille Stackhouse and Abigail Couzens each scored three times and added an assist with Couzens securing two draw controls.
  • Audrey Silverman assisted on a pair of goals for the Engineers.
  • Ava Gilardone won a game-high six draw controls, caused four turnovers, collected three groundballs and posted an assist.
  • Emily Speck won three draws, scored a goal and collected a groundball.
  • Halley Feaga earned the win in goal with seven saves for RPI.
