Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ) and First Year
Junchen Jia (Vail, AZ) were named the league's Doubles Team of the Week with First Year
Jonas Santos (Las Vegas, NV) earning his first Rookie of the Week citation.
Cattaruzzi and Jia teamed for wins at second doubles against #22 Skidmore and RPI to help Vassar close out an 8-0 record against league rivals. On Saturday, the duo dispatched their opponents from Skidmore in an impressive 6-1 decision. On Sunday at RPI, Cattaruzzi and Jia won their seventh straight decision and improved to 11-5 on the season following a 6-4 victory against the Engineers.
Santos continued a strong rookie campaign and clinched both victories for the Brewers over the weekend in singles play. Against the Thoroughbreds on Saturday, Santos gave Vassar the win with a 6-3, 6-4 fifth singles win and a day later wrapped up a 4-3 win at RPI with a 6-4, 6-2 fourth singles win. Santos has won seven straight singles decisions heading into the conference championship and holds an 11-4 record in singles play.
In addition to a 2-0 record in singles over the week, Santos teamed with
Eugene Lee (Chico, CA) for a pair of doubles victories. The duo battled to a 7-5 third doubles win against Skidmore on Saturday before outlasting RPI's third pair 7-6 (7-2) on Sunday. Lee and Santos have won each of their last 11 doubles decisions and hold a 13-2 record.
Vassar has won 10 straight matches heading into the conference championship and stand at 15-5 overall on the season. The Brewers will open the conference championship on May 2 against the winner of Union and RIT First Round match.
