Troy, NY – The Vassar College Men's Lacrosse team continued Liberty League play Wednesday evening with a 13-11 road loss at RPI. Five Brewers finished the game with multiple points, led by four points from senior
Anderson Eads (Brightwaters, NY). Senior
Dan Bader (Forestdale, MA) anchored the defensive effort with a trio of caused turnovers.
Wednesday's loss drops Vassar to 5-5 overall on the season and 1-2 against conference rivals with the Engineers improving to 8-5 overall and 1-2 in Liberty League play.
How It Happened
- RPI ran out to a 3-0 lead over the first 6:18 of the contest.
- Vassar got on the board at the 5:16 mark of the opening stanza with a Nate Johnson (Brentwood, TN) goal and climbed to within 3-2 a half minute later when Drew Mazzocco (Leesburg, VA) found the back of the net.
- The Engineers started the second quarter with two straight goals, both coming from Tyler Ruffini, to open a 5-2 advantage with 9:37 left before halftime.
- John Malone (Devon, PA) and Eads struck with back-to-back goals 1:24 part to pull back to within 5-4 with 5:33 left in the second quarter.
- RPI finished the half with Ruffini's third goal of the period, a marker with 17 seconds left, to send the Engineers into the intermission with a 6-4 advantage.
- Vassar outshot RPI 23-11 in the opening 30 minutes and dominated first half face-offs 10-2.
- Wednesday's third quarter featured just three goals, with RPI getting another Ruffini marker and an Andrew Childs tally in the final minute, to carry an 8-5 lead into the final 15 minutes.
