Vassar Doubles-Up Farmingdale State, 18-9

Brewers start 3-0 for second straight season

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team won its third straight game to open the season Wednesday evening following an 18-9 non-conference victory over Farmingdale State. Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) led 14 different players with a point with five goals against the Rams.
 
Vassar starts a season 3-0 for the second straight season, while Farmingdale State begins its 2026 campaign 0-2.
 
How It Happened
  • After the two teams split the first four goals of the game, Vassar ran off four straight tallies, including three from Billings, to open a 6-2 lead midway through the first quarter.
  • Farmingdale State climbed back to within 6-4, before the final three goals of the opening stanza went to Vassar, sending it to the second period with a 9-4 advantage.
  • Vassar stifled the visitors in the second frame, outscoring the Rams 6-1 heading into halftime.
  • Amelia Poirier (Atherton, CA) sparked a 5-0 run to open the second quarter with a pair of goals with Olivia Palleschi (East Rockaway, NY) scoring a player-up goal in the closing seconds to send Vassar into the break with a commanding 15-5 lead.
  • Vassar held a 25-8 advantage in shots prior to halftime and a commanding 19-1 advantage in draw controls.
  • Vassar would not allow Farmingdale State closer than eight goals in the second half.
  • The Brewers finished the third stanza leading 17-7 after Payson Walker (Clarksburg, MD) scored with just under three minutes left in the quarter.
  • The Rams would get to within eight following back-to-back goals early in the final period, before Walker struck with a player-down goal with a half minute to go to close out the scoring in the game.
  • Farmingdale State finished the second half with a slim 10-8 edge in shots with each team winning four draw controls.
 
For The Brewers
  • Billings continued a strong start to the season with five goals, running her season total to 13. Billings closed out the victory with a trio of draw controls.
  • Karina Gyllenhaal (Beverly, MA) assisted on four goals for the Brewers.
  • Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) found the back of the net three times and added seven draw controls.
  • Walker and Poirer each scored twice with Walker securing two draw controls.
  • Siena Wong (Scotts Valley, CA) posted three points, including two assists, to go along with two groundballs and a draw control.
  • Sigrid Fredlund (Seattle, WA) scored once and assisted on a goal.
  • Norah Flinn (Cranston, RI) forced two turnovers and picked up five groundballs for the Brewers.
  • Vassar used three goalies in the win with Maddie Busam (Summit, NJ), Cassidy Schuchat (Hopewell Junction, NY) and Jules Landicho (Mountainside, NJ) all making one save.
 
For The Rams
  • Carly Livingston led the Rams with five goals and six points while scooping two groundballs.
  • Rylee Valenzano scored twice and added two groundballs and a pair of draw controls.
  • Rebecca Lohman finished the night with two groundballs and a caused turnover.
  • Giavanna Stamatelo suffered the loss in goal, making seven saves on the night.
