Brewers Lead Wire-To-Wire In Road Victory At Bard

McDermed, Ippolito net double-figures

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY – Senior Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) scored a game-high and matched her season-high with 23 points and junior Sophia Ippolito (Cumberland Center, ME) chipped in 11 tallies as the Vassar College Women's Basketball team cruised to a 63-41 road win at Bard Friday evening.
 
Vassar improves to 10-10 overall and 9-4 in conference play with the victory, while Bard falls to 3-17 overall and 1-12 against league rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • Vassar never trailed in the game and outscored Bard 23-3 in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Brewers scored the first eight points of the game, getting three-pointers from Maddie Ahearn (Bethlehem, PA) and McDermed to spark the run.
  • Following a Jessica Martin jumper at the 7:06 mark of the opening period, Vassar used a 13-0 run, covering nearly five minutes, to surge in front 21-2 on a pair of McDermed free-throws.
  • Vassar spread its lead to 23-3 on two Ippolito conversions from the free-throw line to close out the first quarter scoring.
  • Bard's second field goal of the game did not come until the 8:38 mark of the second frame.
  • Vassar maintained a lead of at least 16 points throughout the second frame and grabbed a 40-14 halftime lead when McDermed canned her fifth three-pointer of the half in the waning seconds of the second frame.

  • Ware paced the Brewers with seven second half points.
  • Bard improved to 31.8-percent shooting in the second half and knocked down four three-pointers.
 
For The Brewers
  • McDermed scored 23 points in a game for the second time this season, finishing an efficient night 7-for-13 from the floor and 5-for-6 from three-point range. McDermed added a game-high 10 rebounds to go along with two assists, a block and a steal.
  • Ippolito reached double-figures for the fourth time this season with 11 points on a 4-for-7 effort from the floor. Ippolito finished the win with two assists and a pair of steals.
  • Ahearn tallied nine points, connecting on a trio of three-pointers, and handed out two assists.
  • Ware scored nine points, collected four rebounds and led the team with three assists.
  • Lindsey Shoulders (Glen Allen, VA) came off the bench to chip in five points and six rebounds.
 
For The Raptors
  • Shirley Dong scored 10 points, swiped three steals and helped on a pair of buckets.
  • Erin Tobes added 10 points, seven rebounds and five steals.
  • Lexi Miller led the team with nine rebounds.

  • Vassar finished the game shooting 38.2-percent overall and went 9-for-19 from three-point range.
  • Bard was limited to a 26-percent conversion rate, including a 5-for-27 mark from three-point range.
  • Vassar finished the night with a 17-10 advantage in points off of turnovers.
