Greenberg's Career-High Soars Men's Basketball Over Bard

Senior tallies a career-high 19 points in the 81-70 victory over the Raptors

Annandale-on-Hudson, NY - Senior Sacha Greenberg dropped a career-high 19 points off the bench and junior Shea Fitzgerald tallied a game-high 21 points to send the Vassar College Men's Basketball team to its third straight victory as the Brewers defeated Bard, 81-70, in road conference action on Friday evening. Vassar's record improves to 15-5 overall and 11-2 in Liberty League play while the Raptors fall to 1-19 on the season and 0-13 in conference action.

First Half
  • Bard soared out to a 8-2 lead to open the game on five points from Azikwe Cuffy-Scott and a triple from Max Frei.
  • Following a Lucas Tovar three that pushed the Raptors lead to 11-4, Vassar went on a 10-2 run behind two three-pointers from Fitzgerald along with a bucket each from first year Gyasi Zinn and junior Kreekor Karageuzian to take a 14-13 lead.
  • Back-to-back makes from Angelos Bratakos and Frei regained the lead for Bard at 17-14 until the Brewers rattled off 15 straight points, led by three triples from Greenberg and six points from sophomore Parker Neuenhaus to pull ahead 29-17 at the 7:59 mark.
  • Bard reduced the lead to 31-29 following a three-pointer from Sam Gibbs and a Bratakos three with 3:15 remaining in the first half.
  • VC closed the opening 20 minutes with a 10-2 run behind another Greenberg three-pointer and layups from first year Kas Mirza and Fitzgerald to hold a 41-31 halftime lead.
  • The Brewers finished the first half shooting 53.1-percent overall and connected on 6-for-13 from beyond the three-point line.
  • Bard concluded the first 20 minutes shooting 45.8-percent from the field and knocked down 5-for-11 from three-point range.
Second Half
  • Cuffy-Scott's jumper put the Raptors within 44-33 early in the second half until VC expanded the lead to 53-34 on back-to-back dunks from senior Nathan Denham and a three-pointer from Fitzgerald with 17:02 remaining.
  • Junior Sebastian Medina's three-pointer ballooned the advantage to 21 points with 14:04 to go before five straight points from Cuffy-Scott trimmed the lead to 58-42.
  • Another bucket from Medina with 7:42 remaining pushed the lead back to 20 until the Raptors used a 9-0 run to get within 11 on a Cuffy-Scott putback layup with 5:45 left in regulation.
  • Five points from Greenberg and a Fitzgerald triple increased the Vassar lead to 17 with 3:15 to go in the second half.
  • Seven points from Mirza in the final two minutes propelled the Brewers lead to 18 with 39 seconds left.
  • VC ended the second half shooting 45.2-percent from the field and knocked down 7-of-13 from three-point distance.
  • Bard improved to 53.6-percent overall in the second half and went 3-for-9 from three-point range.
For The Brewers
  • Fitzgerald posted a game-high 21 points (7-for-13 FG, 6-for-8 3PT), five rebounds, three assists and two steals while Greenberg tallied a career-high 19 points (7-for-12 FG, 5-for-8 3PT), four rebounds and two assists.
  • Karageuzian garnered 11 points (5-for-5 FG), six assists and six boards along with Mirza chipping in nine points off the bench.
  • Medina added seven points, two assists and two rebounds while Neuenhaus totaled six points, four boards and two assists.
  • Denham recorded six points, four rebounds and three steals.
For The Raptors
  • Tovar registered a game-high 22 points (10-for-17 FG), four assists and five rebounds while Cuffy-Scott garnered 21 points (8-for-10 FG) and five boards.
  • Frei recorded nine points and three assists along with Gibbs adding eight points and two assists.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the contest shooting 49.2-percent overall and connected on 13-for-26 from three-point range.
  • Bard concluded the evening shooting an even 50-percent from the field and went 8-for-20 from three.
  • The Brewers outscored the Raptors 18-16 in points off turnovers, 19-4 in second chance points and 34-32 in points in the paint.
