Lewiston, ME – The #26 Vassar College Women's Tennis team took to the road for the first time this spring and scored an impressive 6-1 victory at Bates.
Maddie Kirby (Davidson, NC),
Ananya Krishnan (Chesterbrook, PA) and
Iris Li (Palo Alto, CA) all won for the second time in as many decisions to start the spring.
Vassar improves to 2-0 on the season while Bates starts the year 1-4.
Doubles
- Vassar earned the doubles point on Saturday with wins at all three positions.
- The second unit of Kirby and Krishnan clinched the point for Vassar after outlasting their opponents from Bates 7-5.
- First Year Gwendolyn Gray (Montauk, NY) and sophomore Sieun Lee (Wake Forest, NC) got the Brewers started with a 6-4 victory at the third position.
- Vassar's top team of Erin McCusker (Norton, MA) and Li battled to a 6-4 win for the Brewers.
Singles
- Li moved to 2-0 this spring after scoring a 6-0, 6-4 win at the second position for the Brewers.
- Krishnan also moved to 2-0 for Vassar after earning a 6-3, 6-3 fourth singles victory on Saturday.
- Kirby was in action at the fifth position and won for the second time in as many outings following ja 6-0, 6-2 triumph.
- Lee made her initial singles appearance on Saturday and cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at the third slot.
- Liya Pomfret (Berkeley, CA) won for the first time this spring with a 6-2, 6-3 sixth singles win.
- McCusker went the distance at the top flight for Vassar, suffering a tough 3-6, 6-1, 4-6 defeat.
