Autumn Dowiak scored the game-winning stroke in a shootout for the second time this season and senior
Grace Wiley made eight saves to send the Vassar College Field Hockey team to a 1-0 shootout road win over #17 Ithaca on Saturday.
Vassar's record improves to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in conference play while the Bombers fall to 10-3 on the season and 3-1 in Liberty League play.
How It Happened
- Following an opening quarter that saw limited chances, senior Grace Wiley was excellent in the second period, making three saves to keep the game scoreless.
- Vassar controlled the third quarter as the Brewers fired four shots on goal but Ithaca goalkeeper Maeve Clark stopped them all to keep it 0-0.
- Once again, Vassar tallied the only shots on target in the fourth quarter as Clark made two more stops to send the game to overtime.
- Neither team could get a shot on target in the first OT but Vassar had multiple shots on goal early in the second overtime period as Clark turned away three shots.
- Wiley answered with a strong final two minutes of the second overtime period with four saves to send the game to a shootout.
- Both teams had its first attempt stopped followed by Ithaca being unable to score on its second attempt.
- Sophomore Sydney Yu made her attempt to put the Brewers ahead 1-0 in the shootout period.
- The next two attempts from each team were stopped before Ithaca's Payton Yahner evened the score at one, leading to Vassar having an attempt to win the game.
- For the second time this season, Dowiak made the game-winning stroke, sending the Brewers to a key conference victory on the road.
