Men’s Squash Tops Hobart, Falls To Haverford

Brewers top Statesmen for second time in last three meetings

Haverford, PA – The Vassar College Men's Squash team split a pair of matches on Saturday, topping Hobart 6-3 before dropping a 9-0 decision to Haverford. The Brewers secured wins in the fourth through ninth positions against the Statesmen to secure the victory.

Saturday's results move Vassar to 3-11 overall on the season and the win over Hobart in the second in the last three meetings for the Brewers.

Vassar 6 – Hobart 3

Hobart won all if its matches at the top three positions.
Vassar First Yeat Aqeel Merchant (Arlington, MA) was victorious at the fourth position in an 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 sweep.
Gabriel Lugo (East Hartford, CT) scored an impressive 11-5, 11-6, 11-9 victory at the fifth position.
Senior Razaan Lalji (West Vancouver, BC) swept the opponent at six in an 11-3, 11-5, 11-7 decision.
First Year Julian Cardenas-Moncada (New York, NY) battled to a four-set 11-4, 11-3, 7-11l 11-7 victory at seven.
Classmate Alexander Thorn (Rye Brook, NY) also scored a sweep in an 11-7, 11-4, 11-8 victory at eight.
At nine, Joseph Donato (Staten Island, NY) posted an 11-9, 11-2, 11-7 victory for the Brewers.

Vassar 0 – Haverford 9

In the second match of the day, Vassar fell to Haverford for the second time this season.
Konstantinos Georgallides (Limassol, Cyprus) suffered a tight 10-12, 7-11, 11-6, 9-11 defeat at the second slot.
Senior Kyle Benson (Bronx, NY) went the distance at three for Vassar, suffering a hard fought 5-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-5, 4-11 loss.
Merchant dropped a four-set decision at four, falling 9-11, 11-3, 7-11, 8-11.

Vassar on February 8 when it travels to Connecticut College.
