Men's Basketball Tripped Up On the Road Against St. Lawrence

Brewers fall for just the second time in conference play on Friday

Canton, NY - Sophomore Parker Neuenhaus and senior Nathan Denham each recorded a double-double for the Vassar College Men's Basketball team on Friday night as the Brewers suffered just its second conference loss of the season against St. Lawrence on the road, 58-57. Vassar falls to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in Liberty League play while the Saints improve to 9-9 on the season and 7-4 in conference action.

First Half
  • Vassar raced out to a 10-2 lead to begin the night as junior Shea Fitzgerald knocked down two threes along with a bucket each from Neuenahus and Denham.
  • Tommy McMahon's jumper reduced the lead to 12-9 at the 13:05 mark before Vassar brought the lead back to eight on a three from senior Sacha Greenberg and another Denham lay-in with 10:19 remaining.
  • An 8-0 run for the Saints evened the game at 17 following five points from Adam Dudzinski and a three-pointer from Colton Suriano with 6:39 left in the first half.
  • Neuenhaus' layup and a triple from sophomore Will Gregory pushed the Brewers back in front 22-17 with four and a half minutes to go in the half.
  • Aidan Phelan's three-pointer tied the game back up at 24 with two minutes left before VC took a slim 28-26 lead with 40 seconds remaining on a Neuenahus make.
  • The first half finished even at 28 following a jumper from Dudzinski in the final seconds of the opening 20 minutes.
  • VC ended the first half shooting 44.4-percent from the field and connected on 4-for-8 from three-point distance.
  • SLU concluded the opening 20 minutes shooting 34.5-percent overall while going just 4-for-16 from three.
Second Half
  • SLU began the second half with an 8-0 run as Phelan's bucket with 14:16 left in the second half put the Saints ahead 36-28.
  • Three consecutive points from Neuenhaus cut the deficit to 38-35 at the 12:44 mark until a three-point play from Connor Parkes and a jumper from Phelan pushed the advantage to eight.
  • VC rattled off a 9-0 run over the next three minutes as four points from Neuenhaus, a three from Gregory and a dunk from Denham put the Brewers ahead 44-43.
  • SLU regained the lead following a McMahon three-pointer with 8:33 remaining until a three-point play from Denham propelled Vassar to a 49-47 lead with five minutes left in regulation.
  • Jlin Brown's layup tied the game at 49 before two free throws from junior Sebastian Medina knocked down two free throws to regain the advantage.
  • Following a lay-in from Neuenhaus to keep Vassar ahead 53-51 with under three minutes left before Dudzinski made three free throws to give the Saints a 54-53 lead at the 2:26 mark.
  • Vassar could only get within a point in the final minute as Denham's dunk cut the lead to 57-56 but the Saints salted away the final five seconds to earn the victory.
  • VC was limited to 27.3-percent overall in the second half, including just 1-for-11 from three, and connected on 9-for-11 from the free throw line.
  • SLU finished shooting 37.5-percent from the field while going 1-for-9 from three-point range and 10-for-13 from the free throw stripe.
For The Brewers
  • Neuenhaus finished with his second double-double of the season with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds along with Denham posting his third double-double of the campaign with 11 points and 10 boards.
  • Fitzgerald registered eight points, five assists and four rebounds while Medina added four points, eight rebounds and two assists.
  • Gregory knocked down two triples off the bench and junior Kreekor Karageuzian recorded five boards and two assists.
For The Saints
  • Dudzinski tallied a team-high 19 points (5-for-9 FG, 8-for-9 FT), nine rebounds and four steals.
  • Phelan recorded 11 points off the bench along with Dan Anderson posting six points, three boards, three assists and three steals.
  • McMahon added seven points while Suriano chipped in six points and four rebounds.
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the evening shooting 35-percent overall while going 5-for-17 from three and 9-for-12 from the free throw line.
  • SLU ended the contest shooting 35.8-percent from the field, including 5-for-25 from three-point range, and went 14-for-17 from the free throw stripe.
  • The Brewers outscored the Saints 30-22 in the paint and 22-6 in second chance points.
  • St. Lawrence held a 12-4 advantage in points off turnovers.
