Poughkeepsie, NY - D3hoops.com announced its Team of the Week selections on Tuesday morning as junior guard
Shea Fitzgerald was tabbed as a Team of the Week honoree. Fitzgerald becomes just the second Vassar player to earn the national honor and is the first to earn the honor since Lawrence Avitabile in 2008.
Vassar improved to 10-3 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play this weekend with road victories over RIT and #RV Union as Fitzgerald led the way with 25 points per game on 54.3-percent shooting, 46-2-percent from three and a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Fitzgerald also added 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game over the two contests to help Vassar to its first ever 6-0 start in conference play.
Fitzgerald finished with 22 points (8-for-12), three assists, three rebounds and four steals in the road win over the Tigers before posting a season-high 28 points (11-for-23), six assists, six rebounds and two steals in the two-point win over the Garnet Chargers, where he hit the game-winning jumper with just over three seconds remaining to give the Brewers its fourth straight victory and its sixth consecutive conference triumph.
The junior currently ranks second on the team in points per game with 15.5 while sitting tied for the team lead in assists with 39 and leads the team in steals with 24. Fitzgerald crossed the 1,000 point milestone earlier in the month against Chapman and is now the 19th Brewer to notch the career milestone and the first to reach it since 2019.
Last season, Fitzgerald was the first Men's Basketball student-athlete to be named a D3hoops.com All-Region III First Team selection, NABC All-District III First Team selection and a NABC Third Team All-American honoree. Fitzgerald was also honored as the Liberty League Player of the Year and a All-Liberty League First Team selection following the 2024-25 campaign.
Vassar returns to action this evening on the road against Skidmore at 7:30 p.m.
