Brewers Suffer First Conference Loss, Fall On The Road At RIT

Brewers take on Union Saturday afternoon

Rochester, NY – The Vassar College Women's Basketball team was dealt its first conference loss of the season on Friday, suffering a 62-43 road loss at Liberty League preseason favorite RIT. The Brewers received a career-high nine points from Emery Mullen (Charlton, MA).
 
Friday's loss drops Vassar to 5-7 overall and 4-1 in Liberty League play with Rochester jumping to 8-6 overall and 5-2 against league rivals.
 
How It Happened
  • The Tigers led wire-to-wire on Friday after jumping out to a 14-0 lead over the first seven minutes of the first quarter.
  • Vassar was held off the board until the 1:25 mark of the first stanza when Elodie Ware Ware (Columbus, OH) converted a lay-up.
  • RIT answered with the final six points of the quarter to take a commanding 20-2 lead through 10 minutes of play.
  • Vassar would not pull closer than 14 points throughout the second quarter and saw RIT grab a half-high 27-7 lead on a Sydney Pearson triple just over three minutes into the frame.
  • A Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) three-pointer with 2:40 left before halftime brought Vassar to within 29-15 and a Sierra McDermed conversion in the final minute sent the two teams into the break with RIT leading 34-19.
  • Vassar was held to 30.4-percent shooting before halftime, but went 2-for-5 from three-point range.
  • RIT converted at 48.1-percent in the first half and also went 2-for-5 from behind the arc.
  • After a Lindsey Shoulders (Glen Allen, VA) jumper brought Vassar to within 13 points early in the third frame, RIT used a 10-0 run to grab a 44-21 advantage with just under seven minutes left in the quarter.
  • RIT's lead grew to a game-high 24 points on an Ella Wilson layup with 1:54 left in the third frame and Vassar would not climb closer than 17 points the rest of the way.
  • The Brewers shot 31-percent overall after halftime and 0-for-3 from three-point range.
  • RIT shot 41.9-percent in the second half and also went without a three-pointer.
 
For The Brewers
  • Mullen went 4-for-5 from the floor on the way to a career-high point total and finished the night with four rebounds and three blocks.
  • Regan finished the tilt with seven points and six rebounds.
  • Ware added two assists, two rebounds, two blocks and a pair of steals to her seven points.
  • Erin Lovett (Norwalk, CT) chipped in seven points and three steals for the Brewers.
 
For The Tigers
  • Faye Kaplinski led all players with 12 points on 5-for-7 shooting and added eight rebounds.
  • Ben Kayser-Cochran totaled 10 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks.
  • Maddy Ramsgard and Erin DiPaola each scored eight points with DiPaola added six rebounds and three assists.
  • Caroline Henderson led all players with four assists and chipped in six rebounds and five points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar was held to 30.8-percent shooting for the game and a 2-for-8 effort from three-point range
  • RIT shot 44.8-percent overall despite going 2-for-10 from bonus distance.
  • Vassar held a slim 15-14 edge in points off of turnovers and a 10-0 advantage in fast break tallies.
  • RIT held the advantage in second chance scoring 12-6 and points in the paint 34-26.
