Poughkeepsie, NY - A large crowd was on hand at Vassar Farm to thank the donors and witness the dedication of the renovated Vassar Rugby Fields. Vassar alum Charlie Williams Class of '80 and longtime Coach
Tony Brown were honored with fields being named for them. President Betsy Bradley, Athletic Director
Michelle Walsh, members of the advancement office and donors Phil and Ann White were all in attendance. In addition, a large number of alums, faculty, staff, parents and friends added to the occasion. Following the speeches the Vassar Men's Rugby team did not disappoint and went on a tear scoring 17 tries and kicking 7 conversions to rout Montclair State!

The final scoreline was impressive and the effort of the Vassar lads was commendable. On a stunningly beautiful day at Vassar Farm the Brewers were motivated and excited to continue their Conference game winning ways against a Montclair State team that last fall had finished in the same position as Vassar. Both were knocked out at the semifinal stage of the conference championship.
Vassar was without previous starters
TJ Usher, Luca Pereira Frears,
Marius Kruse and
Gabe Slavin but led by
Ted Twit and his 4 tries Montclair had little to offer.
Kaiden Tocher at Number 8 opened the Vassar scoring with a simple first try down the right touchline. Twit followed slipping through the center to go over and a third score from feisty scrumhalf
Eli Schair-Rigoletti put the Brewers on the road to success.
It was a game where Vassar never quite reached the heights of calm purposeful management but rather looked a bit edgy and there were too many moments of messy or hurried play. Nevertheless there was a lot more shape and direction to the Vassar attack and it led to some good scores.
Kaiden Tocher collected 3 tries and looked dangerous with ball in hand.
Max Czekaj and
Gene Waddy proved a handful for the MSU defense and rookie Sam Hoover acquitted himself well in his first game.
Much sterner tests lie ahead for the Brewers and next week the trip to Fairfield University will be a challenge.
