Women’s Soccer Takes On Sarah Lawrence, Mount Saint Mary To Open 2025 Season

Brewers host Gryphons, travel to the Mount

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Women's Soccer team will kick-off its fifth season under Head Coach Keith Simons this weekend with a pair of games against Skyline Conference opponents. The Brewers will host Sarah Lawrence Saturday afternoon before making the trip across the Hudson to take on Mount Saint Mary on Sunday. Live Stats and Video will be available for both contests.
 
Quick Hitters
  • Vassar is coming off one of the best seasons in program history after posting a 12-4-5 overall record and making the program's second ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
  • The 12 wins was the most for the program since going 12-5-2 in 2010.
  • The Brewers earned at at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament and earned a 1-0 win over St. Mary's-Maryland for the program's first ever victory in the national tournament.
  • Vassar featured six All-Conference selections in 2024 and return four of the six to the 2025 lineup.
  • Alice Crowley (St. Louis, MO) was tabbed First Team All-Conference and was named the 2024 Liberty League Rookie of the Year.
  • Cecelia Wager (Brookline, MA) was made a Second Team selection with Lindsey Nihei (Honolulu, HI) and Rebecca Rodriguez (Santa Barbara, CA) earning Third Team accolades.

Captains
  • The Brewers' leadership group for the 2025 season will consist of Lily Brigman (Mebane, NC), Riley McGrath (Coronado, CA), Nihei and Rodriguez.
 
Forward
  • Crowley led the Brewers scoring output as a First Year in 2024, posting team-highs in goals (12), game winning goals (4) and points (27).
  • Junior Gianna Panarelli (Jensen Beach, FL) produced six goals and 13 points a season ago and potted a pair of deciding tallies.
  • McGrath closed out the 2024 season tied for third on the team with 12 points after tallying four times and assisting on four other goals.
  • Junior Grace Romano (Florence, NJ) returns after posting four goals and eight points as a sophomore.
  • Lucy Getzin (Ithaca, NY) and Liv Ivie (Agoura Hills, CA) return to the Vassar front line after Getzin appeared in 27 games in 2024 and Ivie totaled six points in 20 games played as a First Year.
  • Vassar will be tasked with replacing six goals from Madison Bouggess who was named First Team All-Conference and All-Region III as a senior.
  • Newcomers to the forward group include: Caroline Sheehan (Springfield, IL), Ava Holman (St. Louis, MO) and Samantha Ehrenreich (Palmetto Bay, FL).
 
Midfield
  • Rodriguez headlines the returning midfield group in 2025 after making 19 starts a season ago and producing eight points on the strength of a pair of goals and four helpers. Rodriguez finished the year fourth on the team with 1,477 minutes played.
  • Wolf started 18 games for Vassar in the midfield as a sophomore in 2024, scoring once and playing 1,82 minutes.
  • Lucy Hart (Portland, ME) and Mollie McLaughlin (Settle, WA) both return as sophomores with each player producing a goal and an assist during their rookie campaigns.
  • Fellow Sophomore Olivia Spektor (Lawrenceville, NJ) looks to make her collegiate debut in 2025 after missing the 2024 season due to injury.
  • Also returning in the midfield for the Brewers is Livy Soble (Pleasanton, CA) who has appeared in 31 career games.
  • Elena Valle (Rocky Hill, CT) joins the position group as a rookie in 2025 and will look to make an impact on the lineup starting Saturday.
 
Defense
  • The Vassar defense allowed under a goal per game in 2024, including just five in Liberty League competition.
  • Nihei headlines the returning group after matching the team lead in starts with 20 while leading the team with 1,634 minutes played.
  • Wager is back as a junior in 2025 after starting 16 games in 2024 and registering six points on the strength of two goals and a pair of assists. Wager finished third on the team with just over 1,500 minutes played and tallied the game winning goal in Vassar's NCAA Tournament victory.
  • Brigman appeared in 19 games as a junior and posted an assist.
  • Also returning on the backline for Vassar in 2024 are Jessica Bowman (Mamaroneck, NY), Sarah Bowler (Salt Lake City, UT), Kloe Brown (Forney, TX) and Alex Astalos (Tarzana, CA).
  • Looking to make contributions to the stingy defensive crops in 2025 will be First Years Sonya Franklin (Lancaster, PA), Anna Arban (Temecula, CA), Anya Halkovich (Santa Rose, CA) and Braelyn Tomanio (Alexandria, VA).
 
Goalkeeper
  • Vassar will carry four goalkeepers during the 2025 season, including three returners from the 2024 roster.
  • Sophomore Laura Shea (Swarthmore, PA) saw the bulk of time in goal as a First Year, making 11 starts and working just over 1,100 minutes in net. Shea posted a 0.82 goals against average and a 0.825 save percentage while registering five shutouts.
  • Classmate Olivia Sandrew (San Diego, CA) saw time in five contests as a rookie and turned aside 14 shots.
  • Junior Bella Stevens (Ann Arbor, MI) is back after missing the 2024 season due to injury. Stevens appeared in a pair of games as a rookie in 2023, earning the win in both contests while making five stops.
  • First Year Emily McMahon (Mill Valley, CA) joins the fold for the Brewers in 2025.
 
Head Coach
  • Simons returns to the sidelines in Poughkeepsie for his fifth season and has guided Vassar to a 37-20-16 overall record and a 15-9-12 mark against Liberty League rivals.
  • Under Simons' direction, the Brewers have qualified for the Liberty League Championship Tournament three times, including a Semifinal appearance in 2024.
  • Simons led Vassar into the NCAA Tournament in 2024 and guided the Brewers to their first ever win in the event, a 1-0 First Round triumph over St. Mary's-Maryland.
 
The Schedule
  • Following opening weekend, Vassar will play three of its next four games at home.
  • Scranton (9/6), Mount Saint Vincent (9/13) and Middlebury (9/14) will make the trip to Poughkeepsie with the lone road game in that stretch coming when the Brewers head out I-84 to Western Connecticut on September 10.
  • Non-conference play concludes with a pair of road games when the Brewers head to Oneonta (9/17) and NYU (9/20).
  • Liberty League play gets underway at Bard on September 24 before the Brewers play host to Ithaca on September 27.
  • Vassar will pay visits to league rivals RIT (10/4), St. Lawrence (10/11) and Skidmore (10/25).
  • The Brewers welcome league rivals Union (10/8), William Smith (10/18), RPI (10/22) and Clarkson (11/1) to Gordon Field in 2025.
  • The Liberty League Championship commences on November 4 with First Round games and continues with the Semifinal Round on November 7 and the Championship Final on November 9.
