Field Hockey Begins 2025 Campaign with Home Clash with William Paterson

Vassar will take on the Pioneers at home on August 30 followed by back-to-back road trips against Scranton and Wesleyan

Poughkeepsie, NY – The Vassar College Field Hockey team opens the 2025 season with a home matchup against William Paterson on August 30 followed by back-to-back road matchup with Scranton on September 3 and preseason #13 Wesleyan on September 6.
 
QUICK GLANCE
  • Vassar closed out the 2024 season with a 4-14 overall record and a 1-6 mark against Liberty League opponents.
  • The Brewers picked up a conference victory over Skidmore on Senior Day and ended the season with a 1-0 win over #20 New Paltz.
  • The Brewers return two-time All-Liberty League selection senior Sofia Beseth, who led the team in goals with six.
  • Off the field, Vassar saw two student-athletes named to the CSC Academic All-District along with 13 selected to the NFHCA Division III National Academic Squad.
  • Vassar does return 15 of the 18 student-athletes on the roster from 2024, including seven of the top 10 point scorers and the top two shot takers.
STAT LEADERS
  • Beseth led the Brewers in goals with six along with points with 13 and scored a team-high two game-winning goals last season.
  • Vassar will have to replace Tori Baker who ranked second on the team in points and goals a season ago.
  • Junior Karina Hoffman returns after scoring two goals and three assists along with classmate Anna Hazewindus who tied for the team lead in assists with four.
  • Vassar also returns sophomores Zoe Robinson and Mackenzie Allen, who each added two goals last season, along with classmates Bailey Mann and Ella Martin recording their first carer goals a season ago.
  • Senior Gianna Hoover returns as the leader of the defense as she recorded eight defensive saves and started all 18 games.
  • Senior Margo Gramiak and sophomore Sophie Rosenblum also return on defense after both tallied a defensive save a year ago.
  • Junior Grace Wiley started all 18 games in goal for Vassar as the junior recorded 112 saves and recorded a save percentage of .704.
CAPTAINS
  • Beseth and Hoover will serve as team captains for the 2025 season.
PLETHORA OF NEWCOMERS COACHING STAFF SCHEDULE
  • Following the opening three games of the 2025 campaign, Vassar returns to Weinberg Field to take on Montclair State on September 10.
  • Vassar returns to the road to clash with Smith on September 13 before heading home to play Kean on September 17.
  • Following a road matchup with #15 Bryn Mawr on September 20, the Brewers play three straight at home with Castleton and Roger Williams coming to Poughkeepsie on September 27 and 28.
  • VC begins conference play against Liberty League defending champion #20 Ithaca on October 3 before heading on the road for three straight conference games against Union, Skidmore and #25 Rochester.
  • The Brewers then return to conference play at home with three straight games against William Smith, St. Lawrence and RPI from October 19-29.
  • Vassar will close the season on the road against non-conference foe New Paltz on November 1.
  • The Liberty League Championship first round will begin on November 4 followed by the semifinals on November 7 and the conference crown will be awarded on November 9.
