Men’s Tennis Earns All-Academic Team Distinction; Entire Roster Tabbed Scholar-Athletes

Vassar one of 135 programs honored for academic excellence

Gilbert, AZ – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team was named an All-Academic Team by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) on Wednesday with the entire eight-player roster going on to earn Scholar-Athlete honors.
 
To be recognized as an All-Academic team a program must hold a team grade point average of 3.2 or better, while Scholar-Athletes are recognized for a grade point average of 3.5 or better. The Brewers are one of 135 Division III programs recognized as an All-Academic Team by the ITA, with the seven individuals a part of 1,115 men's tennis players honored.
 
Senior Arnav Agostinho (Brooklyn, NY), an Economics major, put together a strong campaign in 2024-25 that culminated in an Academic All-District citation. Agostinho earned nine victories for Vassar playing out of three different positions and added 12 more victories, including eight teamed with Pedro Cattaruzzi (Chatham, NJ), at the third doubles position.
 
Classmate James Balon (Winnetka, IL), an Economics major at Vassar, also garnered Academic All-District Honors for the Brewers following the 2024-25 season. Balon led Vassar with 11 singles victories in the spring, including a 6-4 mark playing out of the fifth position. Balon also was a part of four doubles victories for Vassar.
 
Junior Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL), A Political Science major, earned Academic All-District distinction in 2024-25 and was named First Team All-Liberty League in doubles and Second Team All-League in singles. Bauermeister earned nine singles victories playing out of the top position and was a part of eight more doubles triumphs playing in the Brewers' top pair.

First Year Joseph Braun (Albuquerque, NM), a Political Science major at Vassar, entered the Brewers' lineup and earned six singles victories playing across four different lineup positions. Braun also helped earn four doubles victories for the Brewers over the course of the season.

Cattaruzzi, a Political Science major, won his only singles decision of the season for the Brewers. In doubles play, Cattaruzzi posted a 9-3 record, including an 8-3 mark teamed with Agostinho. The duo went 2-1 at the second slot and 6-2 playing at third doubles. 
 
Fellow First Year Joaquin Gil (Brooklyn, NY), a Neuroscience major, was one of three Brewers to earn double-digit victories in singles play in 2024-25. Gil posted a 10-6 record for Vassar out of the sixth slot and scored two more victories in doubles competition.
 
Sophomore Eugene Lee (Chico, CA), A Biochemistry major, continued a strong start to his career finishing the season with an Academic All-District citation as well as a First Team All-Liberty League selection in doubles play and a Second Team selection in singles action. Lee was tied for second on the team with 10 singles victories in 2024-25 and joined Bauermeister for eight wins at the top doubles flight.
 
Junior Miles Sondergaard Jensen (Newton, MA), a Mathematics major, earned a victory in singles play for the Brewers over the course of the spring and teamed with four different doubles partners to second a trio of doubles victories for Vassar.
 
The Brewers closed the 2024-25 season with a 9-11 overall record and a 5-3 mark against Liberty League opponents.
