Ithaca, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team's season came to a close in the Liberty League Crossover Series on Saturday afternoon as the Brewers suffered a 9-1 loss to Ithaca in the resumption of Friday's game two of the series on Saturday afternoon.
Vassar's record finishes at 14-19 overall while the Bombers advance to the four team double elimination Liberty League Championship beginning on Thursday.
How It Happened
- The Bombers scored in the first inning for the second straight game as Andrew McDermott blasted a leadoff home run to right field to take a 1-0 lead.
- Ithaca extended the lead to 2-0 in the third following a RBI single from Ethan Daddabbo with one out but first year Zach Berner limited the damage after inducing a pop out and a strikeout to keep the deficit at two.
- Vassar cut the lead to 2-1 in the fifth as senior Birch Herring-Jackson was hit by pitch and came around to score on a Bombers error.
- Ithaca pushed the lead back to two runs in the bottom half of the fifth on another RBI single from Daddabbo and the game was suspended following the fifth inning.
- Following the resumption of the game on Saturday, both teams were held off the scoreboard until the bottom of the eighth inning.
- Ithaca tacked on six insurance runs behind a two-RBI double from Daddabbo, a RBI double from Riley Brawdy, a sacrifice fly from Ethan Fantel and two more runs came across on a throwing error.
For The Brewers
- Seniors Ricardo Reyna and Bradley Markind each tallied two hits and Herring-Jackson reached base twice and scored a run.
- Berner took the loss on the mound as he went three innings, allowing three hits, two runs (one earned), four walks and struck out one.
For The Bombers
- Daddabbo went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in while McDermott recorded two hits, including a homer, two runs scored and a RBI.
- Brawdy, Ryan Laubscher and Connor Pederson each added a hit and a run scored.
- Ethan Murley earned the win on the mound as he threw five innings, giving up three hits, one run (zero earned), two walks and struck out seven.
- Colin Leyner picked up the save as he tossed four scoreless innings in relief, allowing one hit and struck out seven.
