Baseball Drops Midweek Clash With New Paltz

Vassar scheduled to take on Clarkson and St. Lawrence this weekend

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team saw its four-game winning streak come to a close on Wednesday as the Brewers fell 14-6 at home in non-conference action against local rival New Paltz. Vassar's record drops to 9-12 overall while the Hawks improve to 17-8 on the season.

How It Happened
  • New Paltz struck for two runs in the top of the first as Dillon Ristano knocked in on a run with sacrifice fly and Wallace Kirkpatrick's RBI double plated Michael Ascanio.
  • Vassar cut the lead in half in the bottom half of the inning after junior Jensen Bergman lifted a sac fly to score senior Birch Herring-Jackson, who reached on an infield single.
  • The Hawks answered with six runs in the second following a RBI triple from Alex Ouelette, RBI singles from Ascanio, Fabian Apicella and Kirkpatrick and a RBI double from Ristano.
  • In the fourth, Vassar tallied two runs after senior Daniel Laderman scored on an error and senior Ricardo Reyna laced an RBI triple to right center to score junior Taison Jemison.
  • New Paltz pushed a run across in the sixth following a leadoff walk to Tommy Kreider, who later scored on a sac fly by Ristano.
  • The Brewers cut the lead to 9-5 in the sixth on a two-RBI opposite field double from sophomore Will Darrell.
  • Ouelette's RBI double down the third base line in the seventh expanded the New Paltz lead to 10-5.
  • The Hawks tacked on two runs in the eighth on a RBI single from Ryan Mackle, who came across to score on a throwing error.
  • VC scratched out a run in the bottom half of the eighth on a RBI base hit from Herring-Jackson to score senior Luke Barrientos.
  • NP closed the scoring in the ninth with Matt Sarni scoring on a RBI groundout from Anthony Pericolosi and Kreider coming across to score on a wild pitch.
For The Brewers
  • Jemison went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and a stolen base while Herring-Jackson added two hits, a RBI, a run scored and a stolen base.
  • First year Kyle Donlon recorded his first two collegiate hits along with Darrell adding a hit and two runs batted in and Reyna tallying a triple and a RBI.
  • Sophomore Grant Maryott tossed two scoreless innings of relief and struck out two and junior Danny Wellner threw 1.1 scoreless innings with two strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Sage Roy-Burman took the loss as he lasted 1.2 innings, allowing six hits, eight runs, four walks and struck out one.
For The Hawks
  • Ristano finished 2-for-4 with three RBI while Kirkpatrick recorded a 3-for-4 day with two RBI.
  • Mackle, Apicella, Ouellette and Sarni all finished with two hits and a RBI along with Kreider tallying a hit, three runs scored and four stolen bases.
  • Connor Catania earned the win as he threw four innings, giving up two hits, three runs (no earned), two walks and struck out one.
  • Jason Wall picked up the save with three innings of relief, allowing four hits, one run, one walk and struck out one.

  • Vassar is scheduled to take on Clarkson in a crossover doubleheader at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
  • New Paltz will take on Oneonta in conference play on Friday.
