Baseball Earns 14-2 Senior Day Triumph Over Bard

Brewers collect 16 hits, drive in 14 runs on Senior Day

Poughkeepsie, NY - The Vassar College Baseball team celebrated its 13 seniors on Senior Day on Friday afternoon in style as the Brewers slugged out 16 hits in a 14-2 victory over Bard in seven innings in a Liberty League victory. Vassar's record improves to 13-16 overall and 4-8 in conference play while the Raptors fall to 3-26-1 and 1-12 in Liberty League action.

Vassar needs one victory in Sunday's doubleheader against the Raptors to clinch a bid in the Liberty League Crossover Divisional Series next weekend.

How It Happened
  • Vassar scored first in the bottom of the third as junior Jensen Bergman laced an opposite-field triple with one out and was scored on a sacrifice fly from senior Taison Jemison.
  • The Brewers lead grew to 4-0 in the fourth as senior Birch Herring-Jackson, senior Daniel Laderman and sophomore Noah Stockman each knocked in a run with a RBI single.
  • VC's advantage expanded to 6-0 in the fifth behind a RBI double from senior Marc Milano and a RBI single up the middle from Laderman.
  • Bard cut into the lead in the sixth following back-to-back RBI singles from Sam Dumper and Rob DeBello to make it 6-2.
  • The Brewers answered in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI double from Jemison and a two-RBI single through the middle from senior Luke Barrientos to increase the lead to 9-2.
  • A two-out RBI single from Laderman scored Barrientos to put the Brewers ahead 10-2 and a three-run homer from Stockman and a RBI single from Bergman capped the big eight-run sixth inning to put the Brewers ahead 14-2.
For The Brewers
  • Bergman and Reyna each went 3-for-4 with a run batted in and two runs scored while Stockman knocked in four runs with two hits, including his second homer of the season.
  • Jemison and Laderman both registered two hits and two RBI along with Herring-Jackson tallying two hits and a RBI.
  • Barrientos chipped in a hit, two RBI and two runs scored while Milano added a hit, a RBI and two runs scored.
  • Sophomore Will Darrell earned his team-leading fourth win of the season as he tossed 5.1 innings, allowing five hits, two runs, one walk and struck out seven.
  • Junior Cade Terada-Herzer threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief for the Brewers.
For The Raptors
  • Dumper finished 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI while Debelo added a hit and a RBI.
  • Xavier Webb tallied a hit and a run scored along with Gavin Gonzalez and Jimmy Famularo each recording a hit.
  • Bryant Elliott took the loss on the mound as he went five innings, allowing 10 hits, six runs, three walks and struck out three.

  • The two teams will square off on Sunday afternoon in a doubleheader for the final Liberty League regular season games of the season at 12:00 p.m.
