Mulcahy’s Marker Propels Vassar To Overtime Victory At Skidmore

Five Brewers produce multiple points in victory

Saratoga Springs, NY – Reilly Mulcahy (Arlington, VA) scored in the second segment of the first overtime period and five Brewers recorded multiple points on Wednesday as the Vassar College Women's Lacrosse team scored a tight 12-11 overtime victory at Skidmore. The win was the second overtime victory in Vassar's first three Liberty League contests.
 
Wednesday's victory moves Vassar to 7-1 overall on the season and to 2-1 against Liberty League rivals. Skidmore slips to 5-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides split six goals in the first quarter and went into the second frame even at 3-3.
  • Amilia Poirer (Atherton, CA) and Emilia DiLiberto (Allison Park, PA) scored back-to-back goals just 37 seconds apart in the middle stages of the first quarter to give Vassar a 2-1 advantage.
  • Following two straight goals from the Thoroughbreds, Elizabeth Burgess (Columbus, OH) scored a player-up goal to even the score in the final minute of the frame.
  • Vassar scored two of the first three goals of the second frame, getting markers from Tess Billings (Deerfield, IL) and Burgess, to jump back in front 5-4 with 12:42 left before halftime.
  • Skidmore closed the second quarter with the final four goals, including two markers and an assist from Lily Hudner, to carry an 8-5 lead into halftime.
  • Vassar returned the favor in the third quarter, scoring the final three goals of the third frame to pull even with Skidmore at 9-9 heading into the fourth quarter.
  • DiLiberto scored twice over the run and Mulcahy posted a goal and assist for Vassar.
  • The two teams alternated goals in the fourth period with Skidmore drawing even twice in the frame.
  • After Billings gave Vassar an 11-10 lead, Jillian Lockwood scored with 3:14 left in regulation to even the score at 11-11.
  • Skidmore would get a shot off in the closing seconds of regulation, but Vassar goalie Bree MacMullen (Medford, NJ) was up to the task with a save that sent the game into overtime.
  • After the two teams played the first three-minute segment of the overtime period scoreless, Vassar won the draw control to open the second segment and just 34 seconds later Mulcahy drove to the net and potted the overtime winner.
 
For The Brewers
  • DiLiberto led the scoring attack with three goals, while adding four draw controls, four groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Mulcahy finished with two goals, including the game winner, and an assist and added five draw controls.
  • Burgess, Poirier and Billings all found the back of the net twice for the Brewers.
  • Catherine Peacock (Stockton, NJ) led the team with seven draw controls.
  • Poirier joined DiLiberto with two draw controls and chipped in two groundballs.
  • Olivia Del Tatto (Bayville, NY) secured three groundballs for the Brewers.
  • MacMullen earned the win in goal totaled 10 saves in goal and scooped four groundballs.
 
For The Thoroughbreds
  • Lockwood finished a six-point night with five goals and an assist to go along with four draw controls.
  • Hudner finished with two goals and a helper and added a pair of draws.
  • Grace deBenedictis collected five groundballs, won two draw controls and forced two turnovers.
  • Charlotte Taylor scored a goal, collected three groundballs and caused a turnover.
  • Maggie Hough suffered the hard luck loss in goal with 11 saves.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar outshot Skidmore both overall, 38-32, and in shots on goal, 23-21.
  • Vassar won the draw control battle by a 17-11 margin.
  • Groundballs went to the Thoroughbreds, 19-17.
  • Vassar went 14-for-21 in clearing chances.
  • Skidmore was 15-for-18 in clears.

  • Vassar is off until April 4 when it travels to Rochester.
