Baseball Pushes Winning Streak to Three After 12-1 Victory Over Thomas

Maryott tosses six strong innings, Bergman registers inside the park grand slam

Davenport, FL - The Vassar College Baseball team won its third straight game on Sunday morning behind a strong six innings from sophomore Grant Maryott and an inside-the-park home run from junior Jensen Bergman to give the Brewers a 12-1 victory over Thomas (ME) at the RussMatt Invitational. Vassar improves to 5-3 on the season while the Terriers close the Florida trip at 3-8 overall.

How It Happened
  • Thomas got on the board first in the bottom half of the first inning as Tony Meza RBI's double plated Elijah Morton, who drew a walk, to put the Terriers ahead 1-0 early.
  • Vassar put together a big inning in the fifth as seniors Luke Barrientos and Birch Herring-Jackson led off with back-to-back singles. The Brewers drew even on a RBI single from Bergman to even the score at one.
  • Senior Finn Kaplan-Moore pushed Herring-Jackson across on an infield single and a hit by pitch of first year Dash Edwards added a third run in the fifth.
  • Senior Marc Milano, who reached on a HBP, came across to score on a passed ball and sophomore Noah Stockman knocked in a run on single to left field.
  • The Brewers closed the fifth inning with a 6-1 lead following a RBI single from Barrientos that scored Stockman.
  • VC added another six-run inning in the top of the ninth as Edwards and Stockman each drew one-out walks and junior Taison Jemison was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
  • Senior Bradley Markind was hit by a pitch to push across a run and first year Miller Young lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 8-1.
  • Bergman then blasted a pitch to straightaway center field and came all the way around to empty the bases for an inside-the-park grand slam for the final 12-1 score.

  • Bergman finished the day with three hits, including the inside-the-park homer, two runs scored and five runs batted in.
  • Barrientos added three hits and a RBI along with Jemison reaching base four times and adding a double.
