Orlando, FL – The Vassar College Men's Tennis team opened its Spring Break Trip in Florida on Thursday with a tight 4-3 loss to Division I Hampton.
Eugene Lee (Chico, CA),
James Balon (Winnetka, IL) and
Joaquin Gil (Brooklyn, NY) each won singles matches for the Brewers.
Thursday's loss drops Vassar back to the .500 mark on the season at 2-2, while Hampton moves to 3-7 overall on the season.
Doubles
- The Pirates earned the doubles point in the contest after sweeping the three doubles matches.
- Vassar's top pair of Fernando Bauermeister (Winter Park, FL) and Balon were edged in a tough 6-7 (2-7) decision.
Singles
- Lee was victorious at the third singles position on Thursday, moving to 2-1 on the season with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory.
- Balon took the match at the fourth slot and improved to 3-1 in four decisions after outlasting Hampton's Marko Stoilkovski by scores of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-4).
- Gil moved to 2-0 in singles play for the Brewers after taking a 6-4, 1-6, 10-2 decision at the sixth position.
What's Next
- Vassar is back in action Friday afternoon when it takes on Coe.
- Hampton is off until March 28 when it opens CAA play at North Carolina A&T.
