Vassar Toppled By Tufts In 2025 Finale

Regan nets career-high 20 points

Brunswick, ME – Senior Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) scored a team-high 22 points and junior Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) netted a career-high 20 points on Tuesday but it was not enough as the Vassar College Women's Basketball team closed out the 2025 portion of the schedule with an 84-68 loss to #RV/-- Tufts in its Coastal Classic finale.
 
Tuesday's loss drops Vassar to 3-5 overall on the season while the Jumbos improve their standing to 7-4 through 11 contests.
 
How It Happened
  • Tufts led throughout on Tuesday after outscoring Vassar 27-9 in the opening 10 minutes.
  • The Jumbos scored the first 13 points of the contest before Erin Lovett (Norwalk, CT) converted a pair of free-throws at the 4:37 of the mark to get the Brewers on the board.
  • Tufts responded with 10 of the next 12 points to pull in front 23-4 with 1:16 left in the opening frame.
  • Lindsey Shoulders (Glen Allen, VA) scored the final three points of the quarter for Vassar, including a layup at the horn, to bring Vassar to within 18 points through 10 minutes.
  • Shoulders continued a personal 5-0 run for the Brewers to open the second quarter scoring.
  • A Sophia Ippolito (Cumberland Center, ME) conversion brought Vassar to within 14 points, at 34-20, with a layup with 5:46 left before halftime.
  • Tufts closed out the half with a 12-6 spurt, capped by an Annie Ryan layup in the closing seconds, to carry a 48-26 lead into the intermission.
  • Vassar was held to 33.3-percent shooting prior to halftime, including a 2-for-7 effort from three-point range.
  • Tufts shot an efficient 55.9-percent in the first half, including 8-for-13 in the second quarter, while going 7-for-11 from behind the arc.
  • Tufts would not allow Vassar closer than 17 points in the third frame with Regan canning a jumper to bring the Brewers to within 62-45 with 10 minutes left to play.
  • A quick 5-0 run for Vassar, capped by a three-point play from McDermed, sliced the Vassar disadvantage to just 12, at 67-55, with just under eight minutes left to play.
  • Maddy Steel stopped the run with a three-pointer for Tufts and the Jumbos finished the game with 17 of the final 30 points to grab the final 16-point advantage.
  • Vassar improved to 43.3-percent shooting in the second half and knocked down a trio of triples.
  • Tufts cooled to 45.2-percent shooting after halftime and knocked down three more three-pointers.
 
For The Brewers
  • McDermed scored a season-high 22 points for Vassar after going 7-for-13 from the floor and 3-for-3 from behind the arc. McDermed hauled in five rebounds on the day, handed out two assists and swiped three steals.
  • Regan reached 20 points in a game for the first time as a Brewers after going 8-for-17 from the field with a pair of treys. Regan rounded out the day with four rebounds and three thefts.
  • Shoulders netted 14 points for Vassar and finished off a double-double with 10 rebounds.
  • Lovett scored eight points off the bench for Vassar and collected five rebounds.
 
For The Jumbos
  • Stella Galanes came off the bench to score a game-high 28 points, going 10-for-15 from the floor with four triples. Galanes added an assist and three steals to the winning effort.
  • Tessa Lozner scored 13 points with Claire Kolkhorst adding 12 points, six rebounds and three steals.
  • Maddy Steal chipped in 11 points off the bench on a perfect 4-for-4 shooting.
  • Sarah Corssett led all players with four assists and chipped in six rebounds and six points.
 
Game Statistics
  • Vassar finished the game shooting 38.6-percent overall and went 5-for-18 from three-point range.
  • Tufts converted at 50.8-percent overall and an even 50-percent (10-for-20) from three-point range.
  • Tufts controlled the paint, outscoring Vassar 40-24 inside.
  • Vassar collected 12 offensive rebounds in the game and held a slim 15-13 edge in second chance scoring.
