Men’s Soccer Drops Liberty League Championship Final At #16 Hobart

Martinez nets third goal of the season

Geneva, NY – The Vassar College Men's Soccer team suffered a hard fought 2-1 loss at top seed and #16 Hobart Sunday afternoon in the Liberty League Championship Final. First Year Alejandro Martinez (Lake Mary, FL) scored the lone goal for the Brewers in the contest.
 
Sunday's defeat drops Vassar to 11-6-3 overall, while Hobart remains unbeaten at 13-0-5 overall.
 
How It Happened
  • The two sides played a scoreless first half with Hobart holding a 9-5 advantage in shots heading into halftime.
  • Vassar goalkeeper, Jacob Raphan (Oceanside, NY), made five saves in the first half, including back-to-back saves in the middle stages of the stanza.
  • Tommy Chyzowych stopped three shots prior to the break, including on a Martinez attempt in the final 10 minutes of the period.
  • The Statesmen went into the intermission with a slim 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
  • Hobart got on the board 31 seconds into the second half when Daniel Spataro tallied off a feed from La Zai Outerbridge.
  • The Statesmen doubled their advantage late in the second frame when Outerbridge found the back of the net, finishing off an assist from Joe Pariano, in the 83rd minute.
  • Trailing 2-0, Vassar cut its deficit in half at the 83:20 when Martinez finished off a pass from Koray Tekin (Winter Park, FL).
  • Vassar got one shot off after the goal when Martinez unleashed an attempt in the closing seconds that was denied by Chyzowych.
  • Hobart outshot Vassar 16-4 after halftime.
