Brewers travel to New Paltz for season opener

Poughkeepsie, NY – The two-time defending Liberty League Champion Vassar College Women's Basketball team tips-off the 2025-26 season under new Head Coach Carly Assimon Wednesday evening on the road at local foe New Paltz. Live Stats and Video will be available for those unable to attend the 6:00 p.m. tip-off.

New Leader
  • Carly Assimon takes over the Brewers' program that has won the last two Liberty League Championships.
  • Assimon arrives in Poughkeepsie after serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of Rochester.
  • No stranger to the Liberty League, Assimon played collegiately at Clarkson and after graduation served as an assistant coach and Interim Head Coach at her alma mater.

A Look At The Brewers
  • Vassar is tasked with replacing two 1,000 point scorers in Tova Gelb and Julia Harvey in 2025-26.
  • The Brewers return a third 1,000-point scorer in Sierra McDermed (San Antonio, TX) who is the team's top returning scorer.
  • McDermed was good for 17.5 points and team-highs of 3.5 assists and 1.3 blocks per game as a junior.
  • Maddie Ahearn (Bethlehem, PA) knocked down 21 three-pointers as a junior and was good for 4.5 points and just under two rebounds per contest.
  • Sophomore Erin Lovett (Norwalk, CT) chipped in 5.0 points per game as a rookie and hauled in nearly five rebounds per outing.
  • Maureen Regan (Oak Lawn, IL) is back after appearing in 25 games and scoring just shy of three points per contest.
  • Vassar will also look for increased production from Sophia Ippolito (Cumberland Center, ME), Emery Mullen (Charlton, MA), Sam Lederman (East Brunswick, NJ) and Ava Gurley (Austin, TX) in 2025-26.

Newcomers
  • Vassar welcomes a pair of newcomers to the fold this season in Elodie Ware (Columbus, OH) and Lindsey Shoulders (Glen Allen, VA).
  • Ware was a three-time All-League selection and All-State Honorable Mention while competing at The Wellington School.
  • Shoulders scored 1,000 points and hauled in 500 rebounds in her prep career where she was a four-time All-Region and two-time All-State selection at Glen Allen High School.

Captains
  • Assimon has selected Ahern and McDermed as the team captains for the 2025-26 season.

The Schedule
  • Vassar will play three of its four games of the season on the road.
  • The Brewers' home opener will come on November 22 when it plays host to Misericordia.
